“Truth, crushed to earth, shall rise again —
The eternal years of God are hers:
But Error, wounded, writhes in pain,
And dies among his worshippers.”

                            ——William Cullen Bryant

It was heartening to note that former President Parvez Musharraf was granted bail on all the three major charges which had been fabricated against him. Any sane man who had read the ridiculous charge sheets would have seen that they had no legal or moral basis whatsoever. However, the process of Musharraf’s judicial harassment continued and, immediately after the bail acceptance, the Islamabad High Court pounced upon him once again, and arrested him on another baseless charge of the murder of a cleric. Once again, the truth came out: a Joint Investigation Team of the Islamabad Police declared that “General Parvez Musharraf was neither present on the scene during the Lal Masjid Operation nor any evidence could be produced to prove that the accused ordered the operation…….” (from a news report by Shakeel Anjum, published in the News International, Pakistan, dated October 31, 2013).

The truth cannot remain hidden. To quote late U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, “Truth has a way of asserting itself despite all attempts to obscure it. Distortion only serves to derail it for a time. No matter to what lengths we humans may go to obfuscate facts or delude our fellows, truth has a way of squeezing out through the cracks, eventually.”

While there is Musharraf, there is hope for Pakistan.
